Teams square off again for two more games
The Aston Rebels return home for the first time this season as the defending East Division champions take on the Northeast Generals for two games. These teams met two weeks ago in Canton, MA where the Rebels swept the Generals. The Rebels won the first game 4 – 2 and the second 3 – 1. Both games the Rebels needed to came back from early deficits to pull out the victories. During that series the Rebels leading scorers with three points respectively were defenseman Michael Underwood (all assists), defenseman Brennan Kapcheck (2 goals and an assist) and forward Dom Garcia (1 goal and two assists). Jack Leavy was between the pipes for the second game stopping 19 of 20 shots.
During the two games the Generals received goals from Justin Allen, Max Brainin and Anthony Tzveyn. Northeast had a 3.00 GAA and a .928 save percentage during the games.
Generals have tough start
The Generals have had a rough start to the beginning of the season having a 0 – 6 record. The team went 0 – 4 in the recently concluded NAHL Showcase losing to Shreveport (3 – 2), Odessa (6 – 4), Janesville (3 – 0) and Topeka (6 – 1). The Generals have allowed 25 goals on the season and have scored 10. Brainin is the team’s top scorer with four points (1 goal and three assists) and Tzveyn leads the team with three goals. Goaltenders Stephen Gasior and Gabe Vinyl see a lot of rubber. The tandem has faced 278 shots so far. Despite having a 4.16 goals against average, the team has a very respectable .91 save percentage. Gasior has a .895 save percentage while Vinyl as a .94 save percentage.
Rebels come home with 5 – 1 record
Before the Rebels take to the ice on Friday, the team will be honoring the players from last year by raising the East Division championship banner. The Rebels so far have carried over the success from last season to this one by starting with a 5 – 1 record with their only blemish being a 5 – 3 loss to the Bismarck Bobcats. The Rebels are led by veterans Drew Blackmun (3 goals and 3 assists) and Dom Garcia (2 goals and 4 assists). Blackmun and newcomer Shane McMahan each have three goals (McMahan had two against the Magicians with the second goal being the game winner in overtime). Ginluca Esteves and Kapcheck each have five points. The Rebels have been solid between the pipes having an overall 1.66 goals against average and .939 save percentage. Leavy has a 2.00 GAA and .929 save percentage. Mareks Mittens, named East Division second star of the week) has a 1.74 goals against average and .942 save percentage.
Weekend Activities
In addition to unveiling the division championship banner on Friday night, the team will display its commitment banner – with all 12 of last year’s NCAA commitments on it. It also is $1 hot dog night. Saturday night the team will honor Folcroft police officer Christopher Dorman, who was shot seven times while responding to a call back in June. It also is Herr’s Family Fun Pack night and Buffalo Wild Wings wing eating contest.
Time switch for October 4 game against Knights
On Tuesday, October 4 the Rebels will travel to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to play the Knights. The game was originally scheduled for a 11am start and it now has been pushed back to 12:30pam.
