Mitens named East Division Player of the Week; Zerban runner up

The North American Hockey League announced its Divisional Stars of the Week for week ending February 12 and Rebels goalie Mareks Mitens was named the East Division’s player of the week while teammate Jensen Zerban was second star.

Mitens recorded his eleventh shutout on the season this past Friday night when the Rebels blanked Johnstown 1 – 0. The shutout broke a NAHL record previously set during the 2011-12 by Rob Nichols of the Wenatchee Wild who had ten.

In addition to Friday night’s win, Mitens played the second and third periods of the Rebels 5 – 3 loss to New Jersey last Wednesday in which he only allowed one goal on 15 shots.  On Saturday night he stopped 28 of 30 shots in the win against the Tomahawks.  Mitens had a .952 save percentage in three games last week. “Mareks has been great for us all year” stated Rebels coach Joe Coombs. “After a sluggish few weeks and five games in seven days, I thought our team really responded this weekend. It all starts with him in goal,” concluded Coombs.

Zerban, a Division I commit to the United States Air Force Academy, had four points (3 goals and 1 assist) last week including the winning goal against Johnstown in Friday night’s game.  Zerban has nineteen points on the season with six goals and thirteen assists.
