Rebels’ goaltender Darion Hanson was named the North American Hockey League’s (NAHL) East Division Player of the Week while defenseman Ryan Solomon was named second star for week ending January 10.
Hanson came up big during this past weekend’s home and home series against the New Jersey Titans. He faced 63 shots between both games and made 61 saves. He posted a 1.00 goals against average and a .968 save percentage. It was his first shutout of the year. “Darion has been outstanding all year. His leveled headedness and demeanor, along with his compete level and work ethic in the net allows him to be an elite goalie in our league. I look forward to watching him grow at the NCAA and pro levels down the road,” stated head coach Joe Coombs.
This is the second time Hanson received player of the week status, which he earned week ending November 1. Last week Hanson was named the East Division second star of the week.
Solomon had two goals in Saturday night’s game against the Titans, one being a one timer that beat Titans goalie Spencer Wright and an empty netter that sealed the victory. This is the second time Solomon has been received league recognition. Ironically, he was named second star of the week the same week Hanson was named Player of the week.
